Disconnects & Transfer Switches
eControls in Houston, Texas specializes in providing UL explosion-proof (also known as NEMA 7, ATEX, IEC Ex) and stainless steel (also known as UL Type 4x, NEMA 4X) disconnects and transfer switches for hazardous locations and corrosive environments. Disconnect switches are typically break-before-make. We can build a switch from 30 amps to 3000 amps.
Explosion-proof switches can be single unit transfer mechanisms (lower current) to two breakers with a walking beam interlock (higher currents).
We use enclosures made by some of these leading manufacturers:
- Cooper Crouse-Hinds
- Emerson Appleton (Curlee, Appleton, OZ Gedney, Nelson tradenames)
- Adalet
- Akron
- Killark
- Hoffman
- Rittal
- Siemens
For example, a UL Type 7 (NEMA 7) breaker disconnect could consist of an Eaton Cutler Hammer FD3100 in an Adalet XCBB-N4 enclosure. The enclosure would be rated for 10,000 AIC interrupting capacity while the breaker is rated for 35,000 AIC.
In addition, we stock 400 amp and 600 amp NEMA 7 breaker disconnects.
For NEMA 3R uses, we stock 480Y/277 3 phase 4 wire fusible disconnect switches. With the appropriate Class L fuse, one can make this one switch into a 2000 amp, 1600 amp, 1200 amp, 1000 amp, or 800 amp switch, for either 3 phase 4 wire or 3 phase 3 wire.
